This is the most luxurious version of the "flying brick" K bike ever produced as it came with nearly every bell and whistle you could imagine having all the way back in the late 90's when this model was introduced. This particular bike is a 2001 model and was purchased by the previous owner than traded it into us all the way back in 2004 and he owned it for the majority of the mileage that has accrued since new. The bike has some wear and tear as you would expect in 88k miles but anyone in the BMW world knows the 1200cc K series 4 cylinder flying brick motor is absolutely bulletproof and is essentially on par with any small displacement BMW car engine in terms of reliability and longevity. Its not unusual now that these bikes are going on 3 decades old to see ones with over 250k miles regularly with nothing more than oil changes and maybe the occasional rear drive bearing replacement. This bike mechanically is in very good shape and everything on it works other than the original ABS system which is a common failure on any BMW of this generation including the R and K bikes. It is easy enough to fully bypass and eliminate if someone would so desire and would save a lot of unnecessary weight in the process.  We did not diagnose the fault code for it and it may be a simple fix if someone wanted to restore the factory ABS system, however the brakes do still function regardless and ABS is not needed for regular braking only panic stops / slick surfaces. We did our extensive checklist on the bike and changed all the fluids and cleaned the engine cases very well underneath and did find what appears to be a slow weep after a hard ride around the engine and transmission mating area indicating a minor rear main seal leak. The clutch feels great and does not slip so it may be coming from somewhere else or may be minor enough that it hasn't got the clutch plate wet. The previous owner did use this bike for commuting so it spent many days in parking lots and there is some sun fading on the side bags and top leather speaker covers on the trunk as well as some of the dash plastic. It currently has a 6 year old set of Metzeler Marathons on it but we would recommend replacing both of them to pass a state inspection. The bike was driven to our shop over 40 miles away from Maryland and the previous owner said he regularly was still doing long rides with it therefore this would make an excellent winter rider or daily commuter for someone dirt cheap. This bike was practically a spaceship it was so advanced when it came out back at the start of this millennium and it had futuristic styling that has aged well. The wind protection is the best of any bike we have ever had in the shop and the electric adjustable windscreen is absolutely massive and works great especially in the cold. With a few hundred dollars worth of parts this bike could last someone another 100k miles with nothing more than routine maintenance. This bike was clean enough under the fairing and rode so well when we took it out for a long test drive that we decided to offer it to the public rather than send it off to auction as it would be a great cheap commuter or long haul touring bike for someone that is on a budget looking for a reliable ride with lots of storage. We are asking less than 20% of what this bike cost new in 2001 and for that money you get fuel injection, cruise control, heated grips, stereo with CD player AND CASSETTE DECK! and typical BMW build quality.
