The 1st gen crossplane R1 engine has a special place in our hearts as all of us here love the sound, look, and feel of the 1st generation Yamaha crossplane R1. These bikes have some of the best build quality in the industry and in many ways are far superior to most of the other 1000's on the market in terms of fit and finish. The fact this bike has almost 25k miles on it and still looks, runs, rides, and feels as new as it does is a testament to that and what the crossplane motor gives up to its rivals in terms of outright performance it makes up for in reliability and durability with many of these now reaching the 100k mile mark on stock internals. Other than some minor clutch issues that were mostly rectified by 2014 the 2009-2014 R1 were known as being bulletproof and have more character than just about every other liter bike out there even including some of its exotic Italian rivals. The aural experience is almost just as enjoyable as the ride as the sound a crossplane R1 makes when sweeping through the RPM range up to redline is a sound unmatched by very few vehicles on the road. These bikes have loads of torque and are so much fun to ride on street, track and everywhere in between. If you can get used to the very tall first gear and the built in seat warmer dual undertail exhaust (which is worth it for the sex appeal) than we would argue this is one of the most fun literbikes one can buy for the money, and now that the R9 has been released as a new model by Yamaha and with the changing MotoGP size limit the value is only going to go one direction on these bikes when they are finally discontinued...which is up. Its little brother the R6 has been leading the charge with its discontinuance in 2020 as a street legal model offered for sale in the US for the last time in late 2020, which led to the values on R6's skyrocketing in the past few years with many now selling for MORE than they sold for brand new. The R1 will not only follow suit but because they sold less R1's than R6's over the years this 1st generation of crossplane R1 with its very distinctive and unique styling will continue to trend upward as the years tick on. Also the 2014 in this color scheme is one of the most coveted as its the last year for the 1st gen, its the rarest factory produced color option, and it has all of the updated electronics and headlight with DRL over the first 3 years so it includes rider modes as well as adjustable traction control and ABS.
